The Office for Economic Development Visits Grünhorn

The Grünhorn network plays a crucial role as a rapidly growing medium-sized player in Leipzig. Therefore, the Office for Economic Development visited Germany's largest cannabis pharmacy.

Anja Hähle-Posselt, Head of the Office for Economic Development of the City of Leipzig, and Dr. Ronny Schulz, Project Manager of the "Biotechnology and Healthcare" cluster, were guests at Grünhorn. The discussions covered topics such as patient access to medical cannabis care, reducing application barriers, and cooperation with and support from the City of Leipzig in the cannabis model project.

The planned expansion of the Leipzig site is a commitment to the city: "We are very pleased that such a success story in the healthcare sector is based in Leipzig," says Anja Hähle-Posselt. "In just three years, the Grünhorn pharmacy has managed to achieve a dominant position in the field of medical cannabis. We are closely monitoring this development and are happy to support and promote the further expansion of the Leipzig site."

During the tour, the digitalized workflows of the pharmacy operations as well as the laboratory for the production and analysis of cannabis extracts and capsules were showcased. It became clear how important Grünhorn's role is as a rapidly growing, medium-sized economic player in Leipzig. With around 20% of the cannabis volume, grünhorn.de is the largest online pharmacy for medical cannabis in Germany. The Grünhorn network, based in Leipzig, ensures nationwide access to and supply of medical cannabis.
CEO Sven-Roger v. Schilling says: "The Grünhorn network employs around 150 people in Leipzig, and this number is increasing. We are continuously investing in our research and development, not only to stay innovative but above all to maximize the therapeutic success for patients. We are therefore very pleased that the City of Leipzig recognizes this commitment and is interested in cooperation, for example in establishing Leipzig as a cannabis model project."

Matthias Fischer, CEO of the medical cannabis wholesaler within the Grünhorn network, Canymed GmbH, adds: "Of course, we are also concerned with other issues, such as the removal of cannabis from the Narcotics Act (BtMG) and the Narcotic Prescription Ordinance (BtMVV), thereby facilitating patient access. Equally important is that insurance companies do not pass the costs onto a potential legalization and patients; the application barriers for medical cannabis therapy must be reduced in the spirit of debureaucratization. Ultimately, funding research on cannabis as medicine is essential."
