Grünhorn's innovative Flower Finder tool enables more targeted medication based on the composition of cannabis flowers
Grünhorn introduces the first digital flower advisor for medical cannabis provision. This online tool recommends suitable flower strains based on their terpene profile and THC content, derived from Grünhorn's in-house research.
Thanks to modern cannabis research, we now understand that the categories "stimulating" and "sedating," or Sativa and Indica, are overly simplistic. The spectrum is much more diverse. The individual therapeutic use of cannabis flowers depends on their terpene composition (fragrant aromatic substances with medicinally active components) as well as their THC and CBD content. Dr. Nadine Herwig, a biochemist and head of the Grünhorn Academy, is responsible for terpene research: "It is time to harness the full potential of cannabis therapy – which is why we have developed a digital tool based on our fundamental research. We are convinced that the Flower Finder will make a significant contribution to improving medical cannabis provision."
How the Flower Finder Works
Patients and doctors must choose from 200 to 300 cannabis flowers for treatment. The first digital Flower Finder assists them in this process. To make it as simple as possible, they can now choose from five desired categories on the Grünhorn Pharmacy website: focusing, energizing, sedating, relaxing, and inspiring. In the next step, they select the desired THC and CBD content of the flower. A higher THC content is desirable in pain treatment, for example, while a high CBD content is beneficial for inflammatory diseases such as autoimmune diseases. As a result, up to five suitable cannabis strains are suggested, which can be prescribed as part of a therapy. This allows Grünhorn to enable faster and more targeted treatment.
The results of the terpene foundational research have been integrated into the browser app Flower Finder by data analysts. Dr. Patrick Möbius, Head of Business Intelligence: "Through this innovative approach, we are bridging the gap between scientific research and everyday application. This tool is a crucial step in promoting individually tailored cannabis therapies." The tool is continuously developed and adapted to the needs of doctors and patients.
