Grünhorn does not see Improvements for Patients
Grünhorn, the umbrella brand of Germany's largest cannabis network, misses the consideration of cannabis patients in the legalization debate. Even with the upcoming legalization, up to 40% of patient applications are still being rejected by health insurance companies and the Medical Service, which contributes to abuse in the black market.
The federal cabinet is currently discussing the draft bill for cannabis legalization presented by the Federal Ministry of Health. However, this welcome draft does not consider patients who are in urgent need of medicinal cannabis. According to a survey, up to 40% of all requested applications for medicinal cannabis are still rejected by health insurance companies and the Medical Service.
“The legalization is the right step to also reduce prejudices against cannabis in medicine. But patients are not considered at all in the proposed legislation. Alongside legalization, there needs to be education for doctors and health insurance companies. The political realm must address this issue. The educational campaign should not end with adolescents. “Further studies are needed to generate evidence, says Stefan Fritsch, founder of the Grünhorn network. “The more patients who are able to receive and submit prescriptions, the fewer will be forced to resort to the unregulated black market.”
