SOMAÍ Pharmaceuticals is bringing innovative medicinal THC extracts with a mint flavor to the German market, in collaboration with Grünhorn, Germany's largest cannabis group.
The bitter and pungent taste of traditional full-spectrum extracts deters many users in cannabis therapy. SOMAÍ Pharmaceuticals' new cannabis extracts combine medicinal formulations of cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids with a hint of mint.
The addition of a fresh taste while reducing bitter compounds enhances treatment adherence. Various flavors of cannabis extracts can improve adherence by masking the natural taste of cannabis, making the consumption experience more pleasant. This can reduce negative reactions such as nausea or disgust, prevent monotony, and create positive associations.
The extracts will be available from August 1 at Grünhorn Apotheke with a prescription for patients and through the wholesaler canymed.com for pharmacies across Germany, available for dosing with a spray head or dosing aid. Canymed GmbH, a pharmaceutical wholesaler and part of the Grünhorn Group, has partnered with SOMAÍ Pharmaceuticals for the marketing of the extracts.
"We are excited to have SOMAÍ, one of the world's most innovative extract manufacturers, in our portfolio.", says Matthias Fischer, founder of canymed GmbH.
Michael Sassano, CEO of SOMAÍ Pharmaceuticals: Michael Sassano, CEO von SOMAÍ Pharmaceuticals, sagt: With the new extracts, we are taking another step towards personalized delivery forms for patients."
Benefits of Mint Terpenes in Cannabis Extracts
Mint terpenes play a key role in enhancing the flavor of the extracts. Limonene, alpha-pinene, beta-pinene, cineole, and octanol may also possess antibacterial and antifungal properties, have positive effects on the kidneys and liver, and reduce oxidative stress. Thanks to a special extraction method, up to 90% of the bitter and pungent plant components are removed, while the active components are retained. The result is nearly clear cannabis extracts with a light peppermint note, which are neither pungent nor bitter. Additionally, consistently cultivated strains as the starting material for SOMAÍ extracts ensure consistent product stability.
The product line includes different THC and CBD ratios (3:10, 10:10, 25:1, and 25:25). In the future, there may be other natural flavoring agents to improve cannabis extracts, further increasing the variety and acceptance of these products. In addition to the mint-flavored extracts, Grünhorn, in collaboration with SOMAÍ Pharmaceuticals, plans to offer highly concentrated THC extracts (70%). These will be further processed in a dedicated laboratory at Grünhorn Apotheke in Leipzig to meet the individual requirements of pain and palliative care patients (e.g., high-dose 150 mg THC capsules or 200:01 extracts).
