Cannabis patients in therapy for an average of two years

Study of 3,000 patients shows: cannabis therapy is not a fad

On average, cannabis patients in Germany have been undergoing treatment for two years. More than half of those surveyed had tried more than five flower varieties, extracts or capsules. This is shown by a study by Grünhorn, in which 3,090 cannabis patients were surveyed in the first part.

A total of 61 percent of the study participants stated that they had been undergoing cannabis therapy for one to over five years. Of these, 64 percent started their therapy one to two years ago and 25 percent three to five years ago. However, 11 percent stated that they had been taking cannabis for their symptoms for more than five years. It turned out that 54 percent of those surveyed had already tried more than 5 types of flowers, capsules or extracts.

"That's not surprising. In conventional medicine, doctors have access to specific knowledge when prescribing medication. In contrast, there is a great need for education due to the variety of flowers and their different terpenes. Patients often have to find the right variety by trial and error. What is more interesting is that the study clearly shows that, despite the current discussion surrounding legalization, cannabis therapy is not a fad. Just 0.4 percent of those surveyed stated that they had started their cannabis therapy less than a month ago"" explains Dr. Nadine Herwig, Head of the Grünhorn Academy.

The multi-part study was conducted by the Grünhorn Academy, the education and training platform of Grünhorn, the largest German provider of prescription cannabis. In the first part of the study, respondents were asked to state which symptoms or illnesses they had been prescribed cannabis for, when they started their cannabis therapy, which symptoms it treated, how many flower varieties or capsules or extracts they had tried in the meantime and in which form they preferred to take cannabis.
