Grünhorn welcomes the government's cannabis decision

Tenfold increase expected from prescribing physicians

Grünhorn, the largest German supplier of prescription cannabis, welcomes the German government's decision to legalize cannabis. This should increase the protection of patients and young people. At the same time, Grünhorn sees a very high potential for new prescribing doctors due to the destigmatization of cannabis.

At yesterday's press conference, Minister Lauterbach reaffirmed the German government's goals and intentions to maximize the protection of minors, increase consumer safety, combat the black market and ensure the protection of quality and thus reduce toxicity. Legalization is to be driven forward in three stages and implemented this year. A corresponding bill is to follow in April.

"After decades of prohibition, we are finally experiencing a historic moment in Germany: cannabis is to be legalized and thus destigmatized as early as this year"explains Stefan Fritsch, founder of Grünhorn. According to him, this is the only logical step to offer patients and doctors in Germany security and protection and a basis for starting a preventative conversation with young people. Cannabis as a medicine would finally be given its rightful place in society and become a legitimate part of medical therapy. Doctors, in turn, will be relieved of the fear of making themselves liable to prosecution by prescribing cannabis. Accordingly, the expert expects a tenfold increase in the number of doctors prescribing cannabis.

Fritsch continues: "By legalizing it, the federal government is breaking a taboo and creating a social reality and recognition. However, the creation of social clubs in which buying and home-growing will be legal is unfortunately only a compromise. It does not eliminate the black market, but only curbs it. We hope for the work and evaluation of the model regions, which we as Grünhorn will support at all times with our expertise. A first important step has been taken and many more must follow."

Fritsch makes it clear once again at the end: "As a pharmacy with Germany-wide cannabis shipping responsibility, our pharmacists and PTAs have tested millions of grams of cannabis over the last three years and have filtered out suspected quality cases dozens of times. We will urgently need these core competencies for legalization in Germany. We are happy to help out with the expertise we have gained, Mr. Lauterbach!"
