The Grünhorn network expands, paving the way for SOMAÍ Pharmaceuticals from Portugal to enter the German medical cannabis market.
Canymed GmbH, a pharmaceutical wholesaler for medical cannabis within the Grünhorn network, has entered into a €10 million distribution and marketing agreement with SOMAÍ Pharmaceuticals. This marks another milestone for the economic growth of the Leipzig-based Grünhorn network.
The collaboration began in Q1 2024, combining the expertise of Canymed, a leading German medical cannabis company, with SOMAÍ's international experience in developing personalized cannabis-based medications. This partnership enables SOMAÍ to leverage Canymed's extensive AMG §75 distribution network and go-to-market capabilities. The aim is to supply high-quality pharmaceutical cannabinoid-based products to Germany to meet the growing demand. Regulatory, pharmaceutical, and political challenges under the planned reclassification of cannabis as non-narcotic require significant local expertise in the dynamic market. Canymed will act as the market coordinator between SOMAÍ, the Grünhorn network, pharmacies, and medical professionals in Germany to deliver products of excellent pharmaceutical quality to patients.

Co-Branding with Grünhorn
With this partnership, Canymed takes another strategic step towards establishing a co-branded product line based on cannabis in Germany. Through the cannabis-specialized Grünhorn Pharmacy, the laboratory team of pharmacists, chemists, and biochemists determines the exact active ingredient concentration of cannabis flowers and extracts using GC-MS and HPLC analyses. The new product line offers patients in Germany a personalized selection of medical formulations from cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids with varying THC and CBD contents (including 25:1, 10:10, and 50:1). This is unique in Germany and Europe and ensures that the desired effect meets the medical therapy requirements. Based on the analysis, the capsules and extracts from SOMAÍ can be integrated into the portfolio of the Grünhorn network and the German market.
