In the second week of October, the annual leading trade fair for the pharmacy market, Expopharm, took place in Munich. The event was officially opened by Federal Health Minister Prof. Dr. Karl Lauterbach (SPD), Bavarian Health Minister Judith Gerlach (CSU), and Gabriele Regina Overwiening, President of the German Pharmacists' Association (ABDA). The medical cannabis industry is also affected by this shortage of pharmacists, as the volume of orders has multiplied since the partial legalization in April 2024.\n\nBecause cannabis remains a prescription-compounded medicine, it is legally required to be processed by pharmaceutical technical assistants (PTAs) or licensed pharmacists.
