Targeted use for neurodermatitis, psoriasis and eczema – now available on prescription
Leipzig, 16. Juni 2025. New hope for millions of sufferers: A medicinal cannabis-based cream now offers a new treatment option for people with atopic dermatitis, psoriasis, or chronic itching. The cannabis cream was specifically developed for irritated, itchy, and inflamed skin and can now be prescribed by a doctor.
Chronic inflammatory skin diseases affect more than 20 million people in Germany. According to current surveys, around 27 percent of adults suffer from acute skin changes that require treatment.1
Frequently recurring symptoms such as itching, redness, or tightness cause significant distress for many sufferers. The new cream complements the existing range of treatments – especially when conventional creams such as cortisone preparations are only suitable to a limited extent or cannot be used long-term.
Grünhorn Cannabis Cream is a new form of medicinally effective cannabis ingredients. It contains two percent active ingredient and three percent nourishing almond oil and is fragrance-free and synthetic-free. This herbal cream is suitable for the supportive treatment and care of stressed skin areas and can be used over a longer period of time.
Mode of action via the body's own skin system
The cream works through the skin's so-called endocannabinoid system, which is involved in, among other things, inflammatory reactions, itching, and the natural skin barrier. THC, short for tetrahydrocannabinol, is a plant substance from the hemp plant that specifically targets certain receptors in the skin.
The cream has a localized effect. It doesn't produce an intoxicating effect, as THC in this form doesn't enter the bloodstream through the skin.
"THC influences inflammatory processes, itching, and stimulus processing in the skin. These properties make the active ingredient a promising ingredient for dermatological applications," says Dr. Nadine Herwig, director of the Grünhorn Academy.
What complaints can the cream help with?
The application is used as a support to medical therapy – for example in:
- Neurodermatitis: Relief from itching, care for inflamed skin
- Psoriasis: Soothing reddened skin areas
- Eczema & acne inversa: Care for chronically irritated skin
- Pruritus: Protection against dehydration, reduction of itching
- Allergic or irritant dermatitis: In addition to basic care
The use should always be coordinated with a doctor.
Medical device – available on prescription only
Grünhorn THC Cream is a prescription drug. It can be obtained from pharmacies with a statutory or private prescription. "For many people with chronic skin problems, this cream can provide an additional option for targeted relief of symptoms—especially when other therapies have been exhausted," explains Dr. Herwig.
